Center Console Yachts: Is this a thing?

Hydrasport introduces a new class of boat with the HCB.

Hydrasport boats have a reputation for creating some of the most innovative and cutting-edge designs for their center console boats for sale. With their new line of yachts, the company introduces a brand-new concept to the boating community, the center console yacht. The question which arises, consequently, is whether the new branding will spark a paradigm shift in boat manufacturing. Is this to be the birth of a new line of boats which will span over several of the top manufacturers or is it a fad/label which is apt to be exclusive to HCB Yachts for sale?

The subjective nature of the yacht

Merely stating that you have a yacht is a bit subjective. This is mainly due to the scope in which a boat can be technically identified as a yachting vessel. Any boat which measures over 40’ in length (sometimes even shorter) can be deemed as being a yacht, regardless of the aesthetics and the features. And while the general consensus is that the boats have to have a bit of refinement and social oriented decorum, such is not a mandatory requirement. Thereby, the term yacht proves to be a bit vague/blanketed terminology on the surface, even though the assimilation tends to lean to that of the traditional “luxury yacht” design.

The center console yacht takes a bit of freedom with the terminology, but not to the point of revamping the overall presumptions that we have about yachts. HCB boats adhere to the 38’+ LOA, with some of the vessels reaching into the 50 and 60-foot range. Additionally, the materials and the purpose of the boats within this new class focus on socialization as well as the fishability for which Hydrasports is known. Finally, the power configuration is like that which you would find on the “traditional” yachts. Overall, the boats are standard yachts, but also push the boundaries by incorporating new features and functionality orientations to the yachting community.

The main distinction of the HCB Yachts

The main distinction between the HCB Yachts and other yachts which are currently on the market, is the design of the center console within the yacht. As the name would suggest, the center console yacht holds to the design of the hardtop CCs rather than to the typical flybridge or enclosed bridge design. Because of this, the yachts offered by HCB are one-level.

Contributing to the distinctive features of the HCB Yachts is also the lack of a substantial stateroom. While there is a cabin space, the center console yachts for sale are primarily focused on day excursions and socialization rather than on multi-day adventures. Coupled with the fishing features of the boat, some would argue that the CC Yachts are just elongated versions of the vessels already offered by HydraSport. However, this presumption would be in error as the new brand has more features, more customization, more standard luxury features, and integrates (as part and not the whole) the best features of their angler center console boats into the overall design while retaining unique features solely for this brand.

Seeing the difference

In order to fully understand the new class of yachts being introduced by Hydrasport, you are encouraged to visit one of the 2019 boat shows. Floridians will find that there are several available shows this year in locations ranging from Miami to Tampa Bay. As HydraSport is a top contender amongst boat manufacturers, and as the company has a base in Florida, you are very apt to see the new HCB Yachts at these events. For a full list of boat shows, please visit the official boat shows page.

The advantage of going to one of the boat shows is that you can see the boats and tour the boats which are offered. As this is a new boating design, it is a bit obtuse to try to convey all of the differences and similarities between the yacht, the CC, and the new HCB. Seeing first hand should dispel any doubts you may have to the validity of this new class. Secondly, by visiting one of the yacht shows in Florida, you can gain specific information which is not available online directly from the developers of the boat. Finally, when attending certain shows, you have the option of sea testing the yacht prior to purchase. This will give you a feel of how the new HCBs differ from that of the Hydrasport center consoles and from other yachts for sale.
