Rockledge

Rockledge, Indian Harbor Beach, and the Atlantic

Rockledge rests directly upon the Indian Harbor with Coca and Viera cities to the North and South. Founded in 1887, Rockledge is the oldest city in Brevard county. The city can be accessed by highway I95. Boat buyers who are looking for boats for sale in Rockledge are quite apt to find boats catered to the Atlantic Ocean, rather than to the freshwater lakes and ponds.

Rivers and the Ocean

Though there are three main waters between Rockledge and the Atlantic ocean, these being Indian Harbor, Sykes Creek, and the Banana River, most of the vessels which are offered in the Rockledge area are for deep sea fishing, for cruising, and for leisure. Boats will have a wide bow, gunwale enhancements, rod holders, tackle storage, and such. Additionally, the boats for sale in Rockledge may be more to the leisure side as you have Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, and Melbourne all within close proximity.

It should be noted that access to the Atlantic is hindered by several islands, particularly Merrit Island. Those who wish to explore the Atlantic or deep sea fish will need to access the water by route 528 to Cape Canaveral, by Pine Park to Banana River Park/Venetian Plaza, or by taking 404 to South Patrick. There may also be the option of docking and storing your boat in the various harbors of Merrit Island to reduce the need for trailer hauling your craft.

Lakes

While the Ocean will be the main market that boats for sale in Rockledge, there are a few lakes for which you may find some craft. These Lakes are Lake Florence, Lake Biblia, and the large Lake Poinsett. Lake Florence and lake Poinsett are not within Rockledge but to the west, connected by Rockledge Creek. Boats which are used on these lakes have the option of docking close to Mallard Rd, Mullet Ln, and Plukebaum Rd.

Within Rockledge there are a few smaller ponds and lakes where you may be able to fish and do some low power or non-motor based boating. However, most of these locations are too small for anything but perhaps a skiff, and these locations tend to be privately owned.

Typical boats for sale in Rockledge

Boats for sale in Rockledge Florida will be catered to the Indian Harbor and to the Atlantic. Boats will include Hewes, Benningtons, Maverick, Hewes, NauticStar, Spyder, Yamaha, Pathfinder, and HydraSport. These boats tend to be more than 20 feet in length and have a deeper sitting deck. Some of the craft may have the addition of a dock door or a 2 step folding door, fold down transom seating, fold back canopy for the console, wrap around windshields, and angled loading ladders.

Boats which have been used in the Atlantic and have been dry storage should be checked for salt damage to the hull and to the internal electronics of the boat prior to buying. Remember that these are not freshwater vessels and so the salt content does play against the integrity of the boats. Finding a reputable dealership is critical in finding the best boats for sale in Rockledge.

Rockledge Regulations

Rockledge has a few rules in place for boating, trailers, and docking. Boats and trailers are allowed up to 22 feet in length and can be parked so long as they do not block the sidewalks. Boats must be covered when parked in a public area to prevent access, and must have proper tags and registration.

Boats and trailers are only allowed for recreational use. Commercial boats are prohibited. Motorized boats are not allowed in the lakes of Rockledge (though they may be in the larger lakes to the west). When the boat ramp is completed electric trolling motors will be allowed.
