Boats for Sale in South Bay

The Crossroads of Southern Florida

South Bay is a small agricultural city resting on near the Southern Tip of Florida in the Palm City Area. Known as the Crossroads of South Florida, because 25 and 80 intersect within its borders, South Bay receives a fair amount of traffic, both tourist and automotive. In addition to the seasonal popularity, the town has continuously grown by about 5%. With over 54,000 people within the 25-mile radius of South Bay, the odds for a boat buyer to find a vessel is quite high. If you are looking for boats for sale in South Bay, here is what you need to know.

South Bay is on a lake, not a Bay

If you just look at the city name, you may be misled to believe that there is an inlet to the Atlantic. A bay, by definition, is a broad inlet where the sea and land curve inward. Yet, this is not the case with South Bay. In fact, it is 50 miles to West Palm Beach. The bay which is being referred to with the naming of the city would be the inlet formed by Lake Okeechobee. South Bay rests directly on the Southern Tip of Lake Okeechobee and the bay does allow access to this water. Other than South Bay, the only other Bay on the Lake is Pelican Bay.

Boats for sale on Lake Okeechobee

As South Bay is located on Lake Okeechobee, most of the boats for sale in South Bay will be oriented to fishing and recreation on that body of water. Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake in the US, covering over 730 square miles, and so the boats and the activities are rather diverse. On the lake, you have 7 marinas, 13 Boat ramps, 2 Bridges, and 5 islands. Again, the size of this lake greatly contributes to the selection of boats available.

Boats for sale on Lake Okeechobee will include Fountain Boats,  Bayliner boats, Mako boats, Sea Hunt Gamefish Series, and a variety of Center Console boats, Cabin Cruiser boats, and Cuddy cabin boats. As there is quite an abundance of fishing, expect to find Yellowfin boats, Boston Whaler boats, and Hydra Sport boats crafts as well.

Purchasing a larger boat

Due to the size of the lake as well as the financial stability of the Palm City region, boats for sale in South Bay may be more on the larger scale. Purchasers of boats for sale in South Bay should expect to find selections which have additional packaging and features. For example on a Sea hunt boat for sale, you may have the Bow Cushion or the Casting Chair added. On HydraSports vessels, you may be able to find the Extreme Custom edition (which has accent coloring, stereo upgrades, and more tackle and storage space).

If you are planning on keeping your boat on Lake Okeechobee than a larger vessel may be the right choice for you. Keep in mind that you will still need to secure a marina or a dock for the boat, so check about the transference of services from the current marina provider to you upon purchase. Those which are not planning on keeping the boat on Lake Okeechobee should look for boats for sale in South Bay which can be towed with a trailer. This means that you may need to go with a smaller size. Larger Craft can be transported by highway 98 to the Atlantic, but there will be some special moving considerations which would need to take place as well as (in most cases) a crane or such to safely remove the boat for sale from the water (unless it is dry docked in which case you would still need to use larger means to move the boat to the coast).
