The Boston Whaler 190 Montauk is a center console boat specifically oriented to the angler. Made for shallow water
The Boston Whaler 190 Montauk Boat is designed for the Flats and for the shallow water navigation. It is not a deep sea fishing boat by any means. The entirety of the boat deck does not have a great deal of depth, and that is for a purpose. Being as the boat only measures 19’, the entirety of the design acts as a casting walk. Granted, you do have a bit of elevation on the bow, but there is not a substantial rise from the stern to the bow.
The hull of the boat has high sides for safety but does not rest deep in the water. Boston Whaler’s 190 Montauk does have a deep V with reverse chine to navigate the water easier. When looking at the overall design you will note that there is a flat design to the hull, even though the bow has the deep V. This adds to the ability to fish in the various bays, flats, and shoals of Florida.
Center Console Design
As a fisherman may need to quickly get from the port to the starboard or the stern to the bow, the console of the vessel is central and allows ample space for movement around the boat. The seating on the 190 Boston Whaler has a storage compartment on the bar captain’s chair. The bar chair also allows for reversible adjustment of the back panel. This feature is fairly standard for the Boston Whaler Brand.
The pilot station keeps with the layout of the Boston Whaler’s smaller vessels in that the main controls and the compass is stacked over the helm. The wheel is the classic spoke stainless steel design and the controls are rather simplistic. As with many of the Boston Whaler smaller boats, the controls are on the left leaving about a foot and a half of space on the console for additional electronics and packages such as the fish locator or the Raymarine navigation system.
Fishing Features
On the front of the center console you have a storage cooler which doubles as a forward-facing seat. However, there are also 4 rocket rod holders which are attached to the front of the console which would eliminate the functionality of the cooler seat. This forward seat is not padded which could cause some discomfort.
The very front of the bow has a large storage area, and there is the option of having a sun pad (which is far more comfortable than the plastics of the cooler). At the transom, you will find two built in forward facing seats. A live bait well is located behind the single motor and there is a splash wall for the vessel. There are two rod holders located beside the bait well. This gives you a total of 6 rod holders on the craft.
On some models, the transom comes equipped with a swim platform and angled ladder.
Best use
Boston Whaler 190 Montauk boats for sale are best used in shallow waters, shoals, and bay areas. They are also adapt for handling most of the rivers and streams of Florida. As the boat height is 7’3” with the lowest tip underwater gear, in down position, to the top of the hardtop, it may be possible to navigate waters such as Manatee River, The Santa Fe River, West and North Bay, St. Andrew Bay, or the Suwannee River. As the requirements for each area differ, check with the county and boating authorities before navigating into such waters.
