About the 48’ Sport Tower
New to the 2018 line of yachts is the 48 ST from Viking. The Sport tower and the Viking 48 Open are new additions to the already established Yachts. On the Viking Sport Yacht 48 ST one will find that there are a few standard features to give a very luxurious feel to a very angler oriented vessel. The diversity of the Viking 48 ST
While at first glance, you will notice the fishing towers, the rod holders, and the other common aspects of the angler yachts on the market, you will also note that there is a subtle level of sophistication and luxury to the boat. Using teak or walnut on the finishes gives the boat a higher level of class than the hard plastics and synthetics on lower ended models. Additionally the seating with the L shaped lounges, the plush materials and the ample storage throughout gives the space the cruising aspect that one would expect from the Viking Yachts line.
At the helm
The helm station has a raised platform for visibility. The wrap around glass dash adds to this visibility and to the overall aesthetics. When you combine this with the size of the cockpit, which measures roughly 120 sq feet, there is ample room for navigation and for socialization without encroaching on the control space.
The towers, for which most people would wish to purchase a Sport Tower, is geared to a standing navigation system. Access to the standing tower navigation is by one of two ladders on the port or starboard side of the stern. Some models may have an optional access to the tower by hatch or by other stairs, but this is not common.
Please note that the towers are not equipped with a captain’s chair or passenger seating standard. This is not a negative. By focusing on the navigation and the fishing tower as being for a vantage point, rather than for socializing, the build was able to be higher, the design was made to have less swinging and sway, and the navigator gets the best range of above water viewing (up to a few miles) possible on the Sport Tower.
Cabin Arrangement
The cabin space has a singular arrangement of two staterooms. The master stateroom is in the bow and the second is off of a small hallway which connects the master, the bathroom, and the stateroom together. The cabin comes with a large lounge area as well as an open concept galley. Materials can range from the teak wood to walnut, though other options are available. Some models may have customization to the staterooms and layout, as Viking strives to meet the demands of their clients whenever possible.
Access to the cabin is by wooden stairs coming from the bridge. The rear of the boat is dedicated to the inboard motors.
