Exterior Description and Features

About the hull and deck construction:

Devlins are built in Olympia, Washington, and are considered true Pacific Northwest trawlers. 

Construction is Wood/Epoxy Composite using Devlin’s Stitch and Glue method. This construction yields a beautiful boat that is warm and insulated due to the wood hull and structure and yet as maintainable as any of the fiberglass hulls you might find coming out of the large production yards. 

About the Stitch and Glue method: The Stitch and Glue method uses wire sutures to hold panels together until they can be joined permanently with epoxy and fiberglass tape. The outside of the hull is completely coated with fiberglass or Dynel cloth sheathing. All exposed wood is coated with epoxy to encapsulate the boat from sun and sea to retain the excellent characteristics of wooden boats without the drawbacks of traditional building methods. Finally, the boat can be finished with high-quality marine paint to finish the whole project in a mirror sheen.

Hull Features:

The Gollywobbler 38 has got the classic tug/trawler lines, and is ideal for a couple or small family that wants to go out for adventures, even to Alaska. The aft cockpit has a hard roof to protect from weather, and a teak grate flooring that is removable. There is plenty of space to layout several chairs and even a table for “al fresco” dining. There is a small but serviceable swim platform, and hookups to connect a Devlin tender.

You can move forward on the outside of the boat via the foot-wide walkway (wood grab handles on the cabintop help). To starboard you can access the pilothouse via a great sidedoor. Once past the pilothouse, you have a nice foredeck which has plenty of seating for enjoying the evening views. The deck is flat and there is a good guardrail, making going forward comfortable.

Above the Pilothouse, there are solar panels (may or may not be operable), as well as your radar and antennas, and wood mast with boom, which can be used to hoist for example kayaks to store on the cabintop above the salon.

Interior Description and Features

Description:

Walking into the boat from the covered cockpit, immediately to port and starboard when you enter the Salon, the galley is composed of an L-shaped counter with sink, stove and storage, and top starboard, a standing fridge with separate freezer compartment, and more countertop with a microwave. There is good storage under the counters.

The salon is open and inviting. There is plenty of natural light via large windows to port and starboard, the glass and aluminium door, and opening windows by the galley counter. Lastly, there is a large skylight that can be open to let plenty of natural air in. 

The seating is set up as an L-shaped settee to Port, with a large table that can drop down to make a berth. To Starboard is a long bench settee. This arrangement allows a goo- sized group to converse or lounge without feeling like they are getting in each others way. There is teak and holly flooring and the ceiling has been tastefully refinished in yellow cedar (as in the Pilothouse).

Up a couple of steps to the pilothouse, here one encounters a large, bright and should I say “shippy” feeling bridge. To port, there is a long chart table area with three large drawers underneath. The current owner has added comfortable pillows so that one or more people can sit and read a book or enjoy the views.

The helm is to starboard with a tall locker to stow gear. There is 360 degree visibility from the bridge and docking is easily handled with a side sliding door to starboard and a simple single step out to the side deck.

Going forward and down three steps into the forward area of the ship, you will encounter a head to port with enough room to maneuver in without feeling cramped. There is a separate shower stall and both the head compartment and shower drain into a separate sump. There is a quarter berth to starboard for that occasional guest that might come along for a cruise. Forward of the quarter berth is a hanging locker and a vanity or personal work desk on the starboard side. Forward is a large double berth and a couple of reading seats. The designer favor the concept of providing plenty of nesting spots so to allow one the opportunity to relax in quiet seclusion when its needed. The Gollywobbler has been designed with that in mind.

Salon Features:

Mechanical

The engine room is below the pilothouse sole and can be accessed through through lift up hatches in the pilothouse floor. Open one for quick access or the entire floor for full standing room, with great access to all sides. Fuel tanks are port and starboard in the engine room under the side decks and the whole space is sound insulated and brightly lit so that maintenance can be as comfortable and convenient as possible.

• Engine – 6 Cylinder Volvo-Penta TAMD41A, 180 HP. Hours 2,025 (Meter reads 525 Hours as of 1/19/21, but Tachometer and Hour meter were replaced at 1,500 Hours. Have logs).
• Cruising / Top Speed: Owner reports cruising speed at 8 knots, and top speed of 10 Knots. 3-4 NM per gallon at cruising (estimate).
• Shaft Seal – PSS Shaft seal
• Fuel Filters – (2) Racor 75/500 FGX filter/water separator with level to switch over from one to the other.

Main Upgrades and Maintenance (2010 – )

Owner has done regular engine service himself in years without major work, he keeps logs.

• October 2020 – In-water clean and change of zincs.
• September 2019 – New head and black water system – Replaced holding tank, head, hoses, macerator, waste pump and run new wiring.
• July 2019 – Engine – Remove heat exchanger, charge air cooler and transmission oil cooler. Change oil pressure sensor. Replaced air cooler and trans oil cooler. 
• July 2019 – Engine – Service Intercooler and heat exchanger.
• June 2019 – Hull – 2 new coats of bottom paint, removed and replaced broken blades for bow thruster., clean and polish prop, buff and wax hull.
• June 2019 – Batteries – Load test all batteries. Replace all 4 house batteries and starter battery.
• June 2019 – Replaced PSS shaft seal. 
• June 2019 – Installed through-hull for new holding tank. Removed old water tank and replaced with new plastic tank.
• June 2019 – Full engine service – oil and filter change, gear oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, impeller, hoses, performed valve adjustment, changed out two belts, replaced sea pump
• September 2016 – Hull paint – Entire hull repainted following damage by power washer. Hull color changed from white to a deep, beautiful blue. Painted in Awlgrip.
• May 2015 – Remove, repair and replace alternator. Inspect bow thruster. Inspect LPG Propane system and serviced.
• May 2015 – 1 coat bottom paint. 
• May 2015 – Batteries – Replaced batteries for bow and stern thruster. Added AGMs.
• May 2015 – Install Magnum Inverter/Charger
• 2013 – Replaced engine exhaust elbow and tachometer.
• August 2010 – Installed Bow Thruster 
• August 2010 – Installed yellow cedar in salon and pilothouse overhead
• August 2010 – Painted hull dark blue in Awlgrip
• May 2010 – Installed suite of electronics – Furuno display, radar, gps antenna, AIS, depth sounder, fluxgate compass, Simrad autopilot system, (2) Icom VHF and (2) Shakespeare antennas
