1940 Chris Craft

Not a common boat to find available, but one that always causes people to take a second look.

Yes, she’s old, not fast, but she’s simple and relatively easy to maintain, and a perfectly capable boat for protected waters. She was originally called a picnic boat for a reason and it is a function that she can still easily accomplish today.

She even won Best in Show at the last Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club boat show.

The current owners bought her in the Carolina’s a couple of years ago and spent a fair amount of effort in her exterior brightwork and paint, the interior is still being refreshed and needs painting in some areas.

It must be pointed out that CHEE is quite a period piece, with very simple interior and fittings. Built in late 1939, in Algonac, Michigan, she was delivered to her new owners in Chattanooga, Tennessee named SARAH-ANN. 

She spent most of her life on fresh water lakes and rivers, only moving to a tidewater creek on John’s Island in 2015, before moving up north to Rhode Island in 2019.

The side valve, Hercules K-6 engine was professionally rebuilt in 2015, while in 2019, her exhaust manifold and elbow riser were also replaced, for its age the engine runs particularly well. 

The double planked mahogany hull was also inspected in 2019 and had a few bottom planks replaced and the transom rebuilt, while the rest of the boat was being prepared for paint.

Also in 2015, the boat was rewired and had new electric bilge pumps fitted.

A holding tank was also installed with deck pump out fitting.

The most recent survey on this boat was conducted in 2019, which will assist the new owner in preserving this classic boat.

The boat is being sold as it’s owners are moving inland and don’t have access to suitable water. They are keen for her to be sold and will consider reasonable offers.
