About Sea Hunt Triton Series
The small but powerful fishing boats
Sea Hunt’s Triton series has been around for nearly 20 years. Since the introduction of the 172 Sea Hunt Triton, the series has expanded and updated features in the vessels, focusing on providing boats that “come ready to fish with standard features such as multiple insulated fish boxes and livewells, cock pit and bow bolsters, all stainless hardware, and Yamaha Command Link digital gauges.” Because the Triton series has been revamped over the years, it is important for potential buyers to understand the series. Here is what you need to know about the Sea Hunt Triton Series boats for sale.
Only Three models are currently offered
There are only three new models which are being offered by Sea Hunt for the Triton series. These models are the Sea Hunt Triton 188, the Sea Hunt Triton 210, and the Sea Hunt Triton 225. There are other models which are pre-owned on the market and showcased in the boat archives of the Sea Hunt’s website. These models include the Sea Hunt Triton 240, the Sea Hunt 186, Sea Hunt 220, Sea Hunt 202, Sea Hunt 207, and the Sea Hunt Triton 177. It should be noted that many of the boats which have been discontinued are within the 10-year bracket from their original release. The Sea Hunt 177 is the oldest with a nearly 18-year release date, and the Sea Hunt 202 models being offered as recently as 2014. As you can see, just because they are pre-owned and not released by the company anymore does not necessarily mean that the vessels are obsolete.
Current Selection Sized for travel
The three models which are offered new (the Sea Hunt 188, Sea Hunt 210, and Sea Hunt 225) are designed with towing and multiple fishing location use in mind. As the boats do not exceed 24’, boat owners are more capable of using standard trailer towing, as opposed to a crane or other methods. Additionally, the smaller Sea Hunt Triton Series boats maximize the potential that travelers will be able to fish in various freshwater locations. For example, in Florida, many of the lakes and rivers are regulated by legislation (mainly due to the manatees and other wildlife preservation acts). This legislation restricts the size, motor type, and HP allowed. The Sea Hunt Triton Series boats are small enough to pass most regulations and the single powered outboard motor can be equipped with trolling areas.
Seating Considerations
Unlike many anger boats which have a bar seating on the transom, the Sea Hunt Triton boat’s layout includes a livewell at the transom with two singular seats on the port and starboard side. Because this is an angler vessel series and not one which is specifically oriented to pleasure cruising or to water sports, the seating is limited (4-6 max). There is the option for the Bow Cushion to add that cruising vessel aesthetic, but in all practicality, the bow space does not really allow much for a leisure lounge configuration. Yes, you do have the forward-facing chair on the console, and there is a recessed casting area on the bow of the Sea Hunt Triton boats, but this does not make it suitable for large families (they would be extremely clustered). It is more appropriate to have a Bow Casting Chair added.
Power Expectations
The Sea Hunt Triton Series boats for sale are generally equipped with Yamaha 150HP engines, as they do not have a high L.O.A. The 150HP is ample to provide enough power against the crests, making the boat suitable for inshore fishing on the Gulf or the Atlantic as well as capable of fishing freshwater. There are a few owners who have amped up the power to a 200 or 250HP, but the consensus among reviewers is that this additional power is unnecessary. It is rare to find 300s or 350s on the Triton series boats as the overall weight, length, and power requirements do not require such.
Purchasers of pre-owned boats should note that many owners of the 150HP smaller and discontinued boats will not have warranties on the motor and that there may not be a warranty on the bow to stern/manufacturing.
