All about Wellcraft Center Consoles

Wellcraft boats are known for their fisherman/women design. The boats are designed by fishermen, with a focus on angler features. A variation in sizes

The Wellcraft Center Console boats are offered in six different models, all corresponding to the size of the vessel. These are the 182, 202, 222, 242, 262, and 302 Fisherman. On the smaller craft the 182 to the 242 a hardtop is not standard. These smaller crafts are made standard with an open bridge design. On the larger vessels the 262 and 302, there is a hardtop standard on the boat. Of course, the amenities and features of the Hardtop will vary on the packaging. Unlike other brands, the ladder and structural mount of the hardtop is located facing the bow and the stern rather than the port and the starboard.

The console

Center Console features on the Wellcraft boats for sale have a large dual seating navigation area on the 302, while the smaller models have only one seat. Navigation center controls are touch screen LED with a central helm. There is a slight wrap around dash on the center console, but this is more aesthetic then functional.

The console has the available features of a changing room, port light, tackle storage curtains, and a widescreen navigation center. The Helm features a 12-volt receptacle, compass, and steering wheel with a stainless steel knob. Cockpit has a 5-gallon bucket in holder, assist handles, bolsters, courtesy lights, rod storage, self-bailing cockpit, and rear folding benches.

On the Transom

The transom of the WellCraft Center Consoles is a cut design. While there is a cut on the back end, the transom has a high back bench seat and fiberglass that separates the outboard engines from the main stern of the vessel. On the larger craft, there is the option for an inboard engine making the transom space more of a casting deck /leisure area than anything else.

On outboard engines you have the option of Mercury 250 XL Verado, Mercury 300 XL Verado, Yamaha F250 XCA with Helmmaster, or Yamaha F300 XCA engines. All configurations are twin setup. Apart from the Mercury and the Yamaha options (which are fairly standard in center console boats) you do have the option of the Evinrude E-TEC 250 X G2 or the Twin EVINRUDE e-TEC 300 XU G2 engines.

Where should you use the Wellcraft Center Console Boats?

Due to the Deep Vee design, the boats are intended to be used offshore. Add to this the cabin and the angler features, and you have the ability to take multiple day excursions. That being stated, as the boats tend to run less than 20’, they work better in the Gulf and on inshore fishing. The larger vessels, those being 30 feet or so, can be used offshore in both the Gulf and the Atlantic.  Scarab offshore packaging maximizes the ride and the stability of the vessel for offshore fishing, Bow Seating Packaging allows for a softer ride when navigating on rouged waters, and Premium Sound Packaging enhances the socializing and entertainment aspects of the boating experience. If using the center consoles for freshwater, check the power configuration with your local boating and regulation authority as there are several places where trolling, power, and inboard engines are restricted.
