What’s notable about DeLand is the fact that it is known as the first city in the state of Florida to have electricity. After later developments in the area, most notably the building of stucco Mediterranean Revival architecture style buildings by Medwin Peek and others, during the 1920s Florida Land Boom, DeLand became the city we know and love today. After being first held in 1992 in the historical district of the city, the DeLand Fall Festival of Arts is now one of the most popular annual festivals of the year.
