Boats for Sale in Duval County
A Main Hub for Floridians and Visitors Alike
One of the northernmost counties in Florida is Duval. The land has been inhabited since 2500 BC, according to pottery found in the area, but the actual county of Duval was not established until 1822. The area was named after William Pope Duval, who remained governor of Florida from 1822 to 1834. The county sits at almost the top of the state and is among the eastern coastal counties. There are few large cities within the county apart from Jacksonville, which takes up a majority of the area.
Water Accessibility
The primary water resource in Duval County is the Atlantic coast, but there are several fresh water lakes and rivers as well. St. Johns River, Mill Cove, and Trout River are among the larger rivers in the county that can support larger boats, but there are a few smaller rivers and creeks that are perfect for boats with a small draft such as Hannah Mills Creek, Deep Creek, and Back River.
Whereas the larger rivers may support the Deep Vee design of some of the outboard fishing boats, it is advised that those which use the smaller freshwater locations focus their attentions on the bay boat and the skiff, or if they require a bit larger of a boat use a single outboard fisharound.
Choice of Boats
Some coastal areas in and around Florida tend to accommodate saltwater vessels easily, but in Duval county, both freshwater and saltwater fishing is common. There are so many options for both saltwater and freshwater applications throughout the county that a multi-use boat is highly preferred. Should you require a center console, choose a vessel which is under 30’ so as to trailer the boat easily from the coast to the inland.
Brands which may be available for sale in Duval County may include See Vee, Everglades, Sea Ray, and Boston Whaler.
Transporting a Boat
Duval County Florida is one of the most accessible counties in the state. Both I-10 and I-95 both intersect the county and I-295 encircles the whole city of Jacksonville. Consequently, it is quite easy to transport larger boats throughout the area and from state to state. Getting to the coast is quite easy as St Johns River connects directly to the Atlantic, should you wish to launch and navigate by water. When transporting a boat by the roadways to the coast, Atlantic Blvd. and Heckscher Dr. both are large enough to accommodate the larger beam and LOA vessels.
Registration
As with all counties in Florida, Duval County only requires residents of Florida to register their boats. Visitors are required to maintain the title or proper registration of the vessel in their state of origin and bring proper documentation with them, but are only required to register their boat with the state of Florida if they intend on staying in the state longer than 90 days. Those purchasing a boat in the state must maintain proper registration within 30 days of purchase and keep the bill of sale or proof of the purchase with the boat at all times until the proper title and registration are sent to the owner.
