The theory itself was called Koreshan Unity and managed to attract enough followers to settle in a 320-acre tract, in the 1894. As of September 1, 1904 the settlement was incorporated as a town, named Estero. While in later years the religious following numbers dropped, primarily after the death of Dr. Teed in 1908, the town itself became an enticing location for individuals and today, after being incorporated as a village area of Lee County in December, 2014, the village holds a population of just above eighteen thousand residents and is a popular destination for tourists.
