Boats for Sale in Lee County
Great Place to Live and to Visit
Throughout Florida there are several areas that have simply become tourist traps, making it difficult for residents to enjoy the once serene environment. Lee County, Florida, thankfully is not one of these areas. Lee County maintains much of what classic Florida is all about with residents and tourists living side by side in perfect harmony. People are now drawn to Lee County more than ever and the proof is found in the population growth between 2010 and 2016. Where some counties merely experienced a nominal single digit increase, the population of Lee County grew by a staggering 16.7% bringing the overall population up to 722,336 residents. Even with the growth, Lee County is a remarkable place to live and enjoy the water, whether you are doing so for leisure or for fishing purposes.
More Than Just the Ocean
The draw to Florida for most people is the ability to sit along the coast and bask in the ocean breeze of enjoying a number of activities such as sailing, deep sea fishing, or water sports. Lee County has all of that and so much more. Fort Myers is one of the most popular areas in the county, offering an enriching historical experience. Prairie Island and Flamingo Bay are perfect areas to enjoy, because the salty seas without the waves crashing into shore. Lacosta Island and Captiva block the bulk of the waves from reaching the serenity of Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay.
Traveling by boat is quite easy throughout the Lee County as the Caloosahatchee River runs from Fort Myers all the way into the ocean. There are also a few other inlets and small lakes to explore with small draft fresh water fishing boats. Should you need to transport your boat via the roadways, it is relatively easy throughout the county. I-75 is the main transport of choice as the lanes are large enough to support transport of a vessel larger than 30’, but other larger side streets such as Pine Island Rd and Colonial Blvd connect directly to all main bodies of water in Lee County.
A World of Boat Shows
Throughout Lee County, Florida, visitors can see a diverse selection of boats, primarily because of the county being home to many different boat shows throughout the year. One of the most notable is the Florida Sportsman Expo in Ft. Myers. The boat show is held annually in January at the Lee County Civic Center, so visitors will have to wait until 2019 to enjoy the expo once again. Other smaller boat shows, however, are found throughout the year during the summer months.
Registration
Lee County is a high boat traffic area. Authorities work diligently to ensure that boat theft is kept at a minimum so proper boat registration and fishing licensing is constantly monitored. Those purchasing a boat within Florida have 30 days to retain proper registration of the vessel. Until the registration is received from the county clerk, the owner must show proof of ownership through the bill of sale. Visitors to the state wishing to stay no longer than 90 days do not have to register their boat with the state, but do have to maintain the registration for their state of origin. Even though boating registration is not a requirement of visitors, licenses are. Boaters are required to maintain an up to date Florida boating license and when fishing will be required to purchase an additional fishing license and with all of the possibilities in Lee County, to not enjoy fishing will do your trip a disservice, so be sure to acquire the proper licensing before heading out onto the water.
