Boats for Sale in Punta Gorda

Sailboats and leisure on the Harbor

Punta Gorda is a scene of tranquility off the Gulf of Mexico. Located across the Peach River from Charlotte Harbor, Punta Gorda contains such sites as Burn Store Marinia, Fisherman’s village, Port Charlotte Beach Park, Laishely Park, and King David’s Lighthouse. Looking at photographs of the area, you will find that the boats in this area are mostly leisure, specifically that they are a mixture of sailboats and cruise vessels. If you are looking for boats for sale in Punta Gorda, here are a few things you should know.

Charlotte Park Beach is not Port Charlotte

While the name may be a bit similar, the location of Port Charlotte and Charlotte Harbor are not within the boundries of Punta Gorda, but rather on the other side of Peace River. The distance is minimal, ranging from 2 to 10 miles dependent of where in Port Charlet you wish to go. That being stated, the only access point from Punta Gorda to Charlotte Harbor is by 45 or by US-75.

If you look at Charlotte Park, which is a part of Punta Gorda, you will note that there are a ton of places for a boat to navigate and dock. Streets such as Ryan Blvd, Via Veneto Dr., Bal Harbor Blbd, and Tropicana Dr. are all part of the Punta Gorda Isles and snake around the various waterways.

A 30 mile trip

Those who are seeking to go into the Gulf of Mexico have at least a 30 mile trip to access the water from Punta Gorda. You will need to go through Charlotte harbor (the water not the city), go between Charlotte Harbor state park and Bokeelia and finally navigate past Pine Island Sound to reach the Gulf.

Freshwater boaters have a bit longer of a trip if they wish to reach Lake Mayakka. The trip is around 60 miles when navigating your vessel through Myakka River, though realistically, you would have enough fishing on the Mayakka River to where you would not need to go to the lake. Those wishing to go there would probably do best to take 75 and get off at Clark Road, or to go to the Closer Mayakka Lakes.

Sailboats

Punta Gorda has several boating clubs which are oriented to the non-motorized crafts, as such, there are an abundance of sailboats in the area. Of course, these range from the single user to the more luxurious sailboats which can be taken into deeper waters. Ensure that you know how to operate such a vessel as they are quite different from the outboard and inboard motorized craft.

Angler boats

Punta Gorda, and most cities along the Gulf of Mexico, are populated with fishing boats. Boats for sale in Punta Gorda will be catered to deep water fishing as well as to leisure. It is not uncommon in this area to find boats which serve both leisure purposes as well as angler purposes, such as a Hydra Sport or a Boston Whaler.

One way in which Anglers can find which crafts are the most popular in the area is to attend the Punta Gorda Boat Show. The boatshow will give you a gauge in which to measure the features, power, brands, and such of the area. It is not recommended that you purchase a boat at this time, as the price of such boats will undoubtedly be higher than in non-peak times. What you should do is take note of these features, and when you search for a pre-owned boat, ensure that the angler boat you find has the dual functionality, the rocket rod holders, the live wells, the bait station, etc. to meet your particular taste and budget.
