When Viking set out to design the Billfish, the though was that they would create a vessel that had the classic slick lines and basic design of the historic Merritt and Rybovivch day boats but with modern technology, materials, and integrated innovative solutions. The Viking Billfish 37 is the fruit of that project and has epitomized the vision. Basic Design
The basic design of the Viking Billfish 37 yacht is a deep vee hull that angles down to the transom. The Billfish has a lower helm station, primarily as a way in which to appease the northern angler in winter months. Yet, the boat is not oriented to one particular fishing experience. The design can accommodate those looking for blue marlin, sailfish, or any other offshore catch. If you need rocket holders, there are at least four off the fish tower, trolling line holders are off the bridge, the lower stern gives ease of access to deeper water without having to haul the fish over several feet of hull. It is a universal boat for any avid fisherman/woman.
Fishing deck navigation is catered to standing rather than sitting. This being stated, you do have the single swivel captain’s chair and the helm is located in such a manner that limited seated navigation is possible.
The L-shape galley has a combination of higher quality materials, but also efficiency. Stainless steel sinks, electric cooktops, extended storage for tackle and storage, bilges and lazarettes with gel coat coverings for easy cleaning, and fiberglass on integral components to minimize slippage are all part of the ingenuity poured into the Viking Billfish 37.
Perhaps one of the better features of the Viking Billfish 37 is that the access to the engines is easy. While other craft make the inboard access a chore, the access to the engines and supportive mechanics are located between the command dock area.
At the stern and Transom
While the bow and the bridge contain a vast amount of features, the stern and the transom of the Viking Billfish has been purposely left simplistic. Rear facing seating and the access to the fishing tower is about all the clutter you will find on the stern. It is designed so that nothing gets in the way when you wrangle in the larger fish. The only other additions to the transom and the stern would be the rod holders on the hull, the live bait boxes on the transom, and the storage compartments on the Port and starboard. As expected, you can upgrade the features and place optional additions in this area, but for the maximum performance and for a no nonsense fishing area, the base design works rather well.
