Boats for Sale in Arcadia
What you need to know about purchasing boats for sale in Arcadia Florida
Arcadia rests as an intersection between highway 17 and 70 in the lower section of Florida. Because the city is not central but more to the western side of the state, boat owners will tend to cater to Gulf boats when listing larger boats for sale. However, this is not to state that this is the primary market for this region. As Arcadia is located close to various water sources, there are a few boat purchasing options available.
The Gulf
Access to the Gulf from Arcadia is easily done by going down 17 to Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbor, or by taking 72 to Siesta Key, or Sarasota. Theoretically, you could put in a boat on the Peace River, but realistically the turns and the miles to get to the gulf would take a few days’ time. Additionally, the depth of water is different for the river than for the gulf.
Those seeking to purchase boats for sale in Arcadia for primary use in the gulf should consider fisherman’s boats and wider lower sitting crafts than those intended for the Atlantic. It is important to note that gulf boats should have a secondary anchor as the land tends to shift quite a bit making it difficult to stabilize larger boats.
River boats
If you are looking for boats for sale in Arcadia, then you will be best to look for a river boat. River boats will be focused on the navigation of the Peace River. That being stated, the boat purchaser should know that there are parts of the river dedicated to the manatee and other wildlife. High powered boats and speed boats are not recommended (nor can they be lawfully used in some areas). Pontoon boats, air motor boats, and large flatbed fishing boats are the best for navigation of the peace river. While there are a few larger boats which stay in the Harbour Heights area, when you start getting close to Arcadia, the river vessels get shorter, primarily in response to the river getting narrower and shallower.
Recreational speed boats
Those seeking to purchase boats for sale in Arcadia for recreational water sports may find a few sports vessels in this historic town as Lake Placid is located just East of the city. Keep in mind that the best boats will still be the smaller vessels. Lake Okefenokee is also a relatively close by area. Again, you will want to purchase boats which have a low sitting transom, side door access, and ample seating on the deck and transom.
Arcadia Boating Regulations and Considerations
Various regulations are in place for the Arcadia area. When looking for a boat for sale in Arcadia keep in mind some of these considerations. Primarily, you will want to ensure that the motors are not too powerful for the area you wish to use the boat in. As Peace river is populated by manatees, there are several areas which require the lowest setting on your motor, to those only seeking to use the boat on the river, a purchase of extra HP would be a bit superfluous. Purchasers should also be aware of the various palms which tend to hang over the river. Boats with high cabins may find it difficult to navigate parts of the river. It is recommended that open top vessels, fold back cabin tops, or low tier cabin tops be used.
Please check with the area in which you wish to launch to see the specific requirements for vessels.
During eagle and seabird nesting season, some islands are closed to the public. Ensure that you know where these areas are so that you do not accidentally wander into an area which is restricted. For the most part, the islands which are restricted are only such from mid-February to the first of September.
As Arcadia is a historical town, the docking and storage of larger vessels may have special requirements as the town does not wish to pepper the historical aesthetics with modern water craft. Purchasers should check with the local zoning as to obtain information about storing their boat. Those which do not wish to dry store their boat may wish to dock the vessel in the
