Yellowfin 17 Skiff Boat Review

Yellowfin 17 Skiff Boats

A boat of technical supremacy

When looking at the boats from the past, the typical skiff seems to be constructed or the larger vessels. As the boat gets smaller the construction methodology has a tendency to give way to cheaper materials and construction techniques. This is not the case with the new inshore skiff boats for sale. Newer inshore skiffs demand a high level of precision and technology to ensure that the boat will last a lifetime. Yellowfin has risen to the demand of the market with their Yellowfin 17 Skiff boat for sale.

Built to last

The hull of the 17 foot skiff is designed with longevity in mind. The hull is made using the same technique as would be used in the offshore boats, giving a consistency to the brand. The hull is made with a vinyl ester resin infusion process and wrapped with Kevlar. Seeing as how Kevlar is used by the military, police, and other government agencies to stop bullets, it is safe to say that there is not too much which would cause damage to this vessel’s exterior.

Storage Layout

Part of the beauty and draw of the Skiff vessels on the market is their ability to provide ease of use to the angler. The Yellowfin 17 Skiff’s storage and tackle layout ensures that no matter where a person is on the boat, he or she can have quick access to deck storage. On the bow you have two main containers, the smaller of the containers serving as a live well. The bow of the boat does have deeper storage than the three containers at the stern. Yet, even with a shallower depth, the sheer number of storage options makes this a great option for the angler.

The shallow boat for shallow waters

Yellowfin 17 Skiff boats for sale are some of the shallowest boats that you will find. The low setting and low riding design of the Skiff makes it possible to get into the shoals, flats, and waters where the fish are and get the catch that you want. Tailing bonefish and tailing redfish tend to stay in super shallow waters and using anything but a skiff may maroon you in such shallow waters. The Yellowfin 17 skiff can navigate to waters shallower than 10 feet in depth when the weight on the boat is distributed correctly.

Motor Considerations

There are a few options when you mount your motor to your Yellowfin 17 Skiff. Primarily, you will want to have a focus on the weight distribution within the skiff. This means that the boat should have the batteries in the front (as that adds about 100 pounds) and a lightweight motor in the back. Typically, a Mercury engine will be equipped. And while there are a few different options, a 115 four stroke Mercury Engine is the lightest engine that you can put on the boat.  Keep in mind when you are purchasing your pre-owned Yellowfin 17 Skiff boat for sale that there may be different engine choices. The key is to find a motor which is light, which fits between the push polls, and can get you into those shallow spaces.

Power Poll Anchor

Yellowfin 17 Skiff boats are equipped with a power pole anchoring system. These poles are designed to deploy in less than 5 seconds and have the silent capabilities to anchor in super shallow water without scaring the boat.  As the anchor is designed for shallow water, those fishing in areas with depths of more than 10 feet or so will need to have a secondary anchor stored.

Console

The yellowfin 17 Skiff is a center console navigation Skiff which generally requires standing piloting. Depending upon the prior owner, you may find a Garmin navigation system. The console is designed with the wheel on the top left and switches underneath. To the right there is space for GPS navigation, and some smaller electronics to be placed before reaching the thrust lever, but not a great deal. Those which are accustom to a spacious console may be a bit disappointed with the close quarter gadgetry on the Yellowfin. However, where the buttons and features may be off putting, the precision and the ability to functionality of the boat make up for any slight discomforts.
