A review of the Viking 75 MY
The Viking 75MY is the smallest of the three yachts offered in the Motor Yacht series. The Viking Yacht company has introduced the new MY series after being a bit dormant since the early part of the 2000s. The new 75 does not fail to impress. With the traditional angles and an iconic aesthetic to yachts of the past coupled with modernistic features on the console and hints throughout the design of new concepts, the Viking makes a powerful and stunning entrance into the Viking Yacht family.
A practical way to design
One of the key features of the 75MY is the hydraulic bow thruster. The size and the weight of the yacht makes the hydraulic bow thruster more efficient than the electrical thrusters and minimizes the risk for overheating. When paired with the CAT/ C32a 1925 MHP motors, the power is substantial.
When looking at the practical design of the Viking Motor Yacht 75, you will see that the flow of the design is very sophisticated. Firstly, you have the swim deck access from two wooden stairs. This maximizes the traffic flow when using the yacht for socializing (which is the primary purpose of this Yacht). The engine room is located between these two stairs and removes the necessity to vacate the stern or other part of the vessel when maintenance and service work is needed. Additionally, as the design separates the main deck from the swim deck, superfluous water is kept out of the console and lounge area.
The Bridge
Bridge design on the Viking 75My has a sleek modernistic aesthetic. The windows have the beveled look with is common in the newer yachts. Yet, the traditional feel is not lost as you still have the back access doors and the seating area off of the bridge which is a trademark of the luxury yachts and mega yachts. When looking at the console and controls, you will note that they are anything but traditional. Triple touch screen monitors, radar, and autopilot features as well as the optional features make this engineered for optimal performance.
The secondary bridge is enclosed and is a mirror image, from the outside, of the main deck. The difference in the two bridges is that you have a bit less sitting area in this bridge than the main. Also, the access to the cabin is in the main bridge. Controls on the secondary bridge are a bit more restricted than they are on the main bridge. However, full control of the vessel can be conducted from either level.
Cabin Space:
Because this a motor yacht and quite large, you have a number of state rooms. What makes the layout interesting is that you have the main stateroom area on the bow of the vessel. However, you have a smaller “crew quarter” stateroom layout on the stern behind the engine room. The main staterooms have accommodations for 5 persons with an additional 3 being able to sleep in the crew quarter.
Don’t forget your tender
The Viking Motor Yacht 75 is large enough to require a tender/Dory/ Deck Boat when out on the open seas. The tender that you use should be an outboard motorized vessel. This gives the range of entertainment and access a fuller diversity, especially since some areas in the Florida area restrict inboards and the tender on the 75My would allow you access to such areas.
