What is a Mega Yacht

The length of a Mega Yacht is over 100’. Within that length, the yacht maintains room for guests and crew. Unlike smaller yachts that have little more than a small apartment in the aft of the vessel for the crew, Mega Yachts have full crew quarters including exclusive crew galley, laundry, facilities, and multiple bathrooms.

Porting

With the typical yacht, there is little issue regarding where to port the vessel. Mega yachts are a bit different. They have such long lengths and beams that it is not always possible to port in the smaller areas. The yacht instead, often must anchor at sea and allow guests to come to shore via the tender. Other issues with porting have to do with the licensing and registration of the vessel. The mega yacht should maintain the proper registration with its flag registered in a specific country or state. Even if the yacht has never visited its supposed home port, the registration must stand for the vessel to be legal to port in cities throughout the world.

Level Up

With the typical yacht, the owner might have up to three levels to choose from with the highest level offering minimal seating and possibly a second bridge. The mega yachts, however, expand their space far beyond merely the length and breadth of the vessel. Some mega yachts can have up to five levels, but most typically have four. Layout for the deck allows for the main sleeping cabins accommodating, usually, 12 guests, not considering crew quarters to be housed on the lower deck of the boat. Just up from the lower level is the main deck that houses the owner’s suite in some models as well as the main leisure areas such as dining and galley.

The upper deck offers both indoor and outdoor dining and access to the bow lounge space. This deck has a special stateroom in most models set apart for the captain to use just behind the main bridge. It gives him his own space for a proper rest but also ensures that he is at the ready should an emergency arise. The sundeck of the vessels is the smallest portion of the yacht and houses several different options including a jacuzzi and some even house a small glass-enclosed personal gym for getting plenty of exercise maximizing the luxurious view.
