Contender Tournament Series

A standard in offshore fishing boats

Oriented to creating performance through innovation, the Contender boats are known in the boating industry for their customization, their engineering, and their ability to navigate well, even in the roughest of waters. While there are a few fleets offered by Contender, it is the Contender boats for sale, which tend to get the most attention, and for good reason. The boats are purely for fishing.

Customize your catch

Every Contender boat is handmade, and not just the three fiberglass parts of the hull, but also the electronics, the aluminum, and furnishings. As such, the boat buyer of the Contender Tournament Fleet gets the opportunity to cater the boat to the specific type of fish that he or she will most often be seeking. For example, if you live near the keys and fish for tuna you would do well with a 32-foot vessel. This is one of the larger of the Contenders, but would give you the functionality you desire. The smaller boats would do well for fishing just off the coast, perhaps for Groupers.

Hull Designs

In addition to the customizability of the overall boat, the packaging of the features for anglers, and the standard features such as the rod holders, the bait wells, the under-deck storage, and the tackle boxes, the hull is constructed to maximize fishing pleasure. Like many boats, the Contender Tournament boats for sale take on the Deep Vee design. This allows it to push through the water at greater speeds. Furthermore, the hull has the ribbed design which has become increasingly common with serious anglers. Combined with the outboard engine configurations, the tournament boats are made to dominate the offshore scene.

Power

Contender tournament boats use outboard Yamaha engines. Generally, this is a triple motor configuration on the 30s, a dual on the upper 20s, and a single engine with LOAs lower than 25’. The light weight of the vessel simply does not necessitate the need for more power than that. In terms of the HP on the outboards, this can vary depending upon your fishing needs. However, the 39T does have 350 triples as standard, enough power to take you deeper into the Atlantic and back effectively.

Towers

While the power and the design are essential to the overall functionality, the tower and the center console design is equally as important. Because this is a tournament fishing boat, buyers will need to go beyond the standard fish finder, GPS, and electronics of the console. For this reason, Contender Tournament boats offer a range of variations to the tower and hardtop, maximizing the vantage points of the fisherman, and increasing the fishing space (by rocket rod holders and fishing towers) on the craft.

Boats in the tournament fleet

While any of the boats from Contender can be customized to suit your fishing needs, the company does have a fleet of tournament ready boats for sale. These boats are:

  • 25T – ideal for first time buyers
  • 28T – an entry boat for the family and for short trips
  • 30ST – The smallest boat offered in both stepped hull or traditional deep-V design
  • 32ST– The latest generation of the 31 Contender
  • 35ST – A modernization of the 1984 Original Contender
  • 39ST – The largest in the fleet, acting as the flagship for savvy boaters

If purchasing a pre-owned contender tournament boat, check with the lister as to any amenities and/or packaging which may have been added to the vessels. Quite often you will find that even though the base boats have the same LOA and general features, the boat’s overall design is quite different due to such customizing.
