Typically, when you think about a yacht, especially a luxury yacht, the image of a sailboat does not come to mind. Yet, this is exactly the design of the Oyster Yachts for sale. The company is oriented to making a sleek and sophisticated yacht which combines the technological features of the modern yacht with the leisure and social “memorable” feel of the sailboat. But this is not a new concept, Oyster has been making their boats for over 40 years and has proven that there is a demand for the Sailboat Yacht. If you are looking for something unique, luxurious, and sophisticated then the Oyster Yachts for sale may be for you. Here is what you need to know.
It is a sailboat..but not
When you purchase an Oyster Yacht, you are getting a combination of a sailboat and a luxury yacht. For example, in the Oyster 475 models you have a sail area that is 150% Foretriange of 120.1m2 (1,293 ft square). The air draft is approximated at 62’5”. There are a few considerations to the sail portion of the boat, that a potential buyer should have when purchasing an Oyster Yacht. First, the sailing features of the boat are set up in the traditional manor, meaning ropes and pulleys. While there are some features which can be controlled from the console, buyers should have a grasp of traditional mast sailing in order to fully appreciate the Yacht. Secondly, because your vessel will have quite a large sail, there is the potential for rolling should the winds get high enough. Turns can also produce some very steep angles and can roll the vessel if the operator is not experienced in traditional Sailing.
A positive help to the sailboat is the yacht electronics and motor configuration of the boats for sale. Equipping these yachts are inboard motors ( the 475 has a Yanmar 4JH4-TE 56kW). While the regular sailboat is a bit fickle when it comes to the steering and the stability, the Yacht’s hull, electronics, and power has been carefully crafted and tested to provide ample control for the Capitan.
Fleets
Oyster Yachts continuously develops new boats for their fleet. The latest addition at the time of this article’s writing is the G5 and G6 Fleet. These boats introduce the 565 and the 595 on the G6 Fleet (on a 118). On the G5 Fleet the classic models are offered with the 475 to the 625.
Because these boats are only made in two locations (though the main location is in Southampton shipyard), one for the larger boats and the customizations needed for the client and another in a smaller shipyard, the availability and the price of the boats reflect this. They are built by hand and built for those seeking extreme luxury and comfort. Prices for the 475 start around 400k for a 2001 and go up to over 8 million dollars for the 101’ 2011 Oyster 100. Looking for something midrange, the Oyster 62 2002 model starts at about 780k.
Buyers should keep in mind that sellers are from all over the world and that importing may incur taxes and additional costs. Also, depending upon the packages and customizations to these Sailing Yachts the price could go up or down.
