If you have ever looked at a World Cat boat, then you will know that they are aesthetically different from other boats. Unique features coupled with a 31-year-old brand (although the first model was not introduced until 1990), have made World Cat boats sought after by boat enthusiasts all over the globe. World Cat boats are primarily for fishermen/women, but can be used for cruising and sports if properly equipped. For those who have never had a World Cat boating experience, or those who wish to know a little bit more about the brand, we offer a brief World Cat boat brand review.
The Double Hull
World Cat boats are the leaders in the twin hull design. You may wonder why a boat should have such, especially since most of the options on the market are single hulls or stepped hulls. World Cat explains that “two hulls are better than one” in that the twin hull minimizes the pounding, slamming, and slapping which occurs on a monohull. Additionally, the V-hull shape, says World Cat, is notorious for rocking and rolling, specifically when you stop or troll. The twin hull design produces a wider footprint all but eliminating roll. There is no centerline of the V hull (rather two if you think about it) and so you don’t teeter or sway the same way you would with a monohull. Perhaps the most important advantage of the twin hull system is that you create an air tunnel, known by World Cat as the Vector Flo hull design. This tunnel absorbs shock while at the same time builds speed and propulsion of the vessel as less air is forced around the boat, which would increase drag (a problem for some monohull options).
Fixed Ladder
The World Cat boats have a fixed ladder system. These ladders are located on the transom between the dual motors. There is a walking platform on the transom which extends out beyond the propellers increasing the safety and the adverting from the propellers. The central ladder system eliminates the need for port or starboard specific anchoring as well as increases the stability of loading and unloading the vessel.
Models
There are 12 models which are offered by World Cat boats. All boats have packages and customization options available, so potential buyers should look for such features, especially on pre-owned boats. The 12 models offered by World Cat are:
- 280CC-X Center Console
- 230CC Center Console
- 295CC Center Console
- 320CC Center Console
- 230DC Dual Console
- 320DC Dual Console
- 230SD Sun Deck
- Glacier Bay Edition 2740
- Glacier Bay Edition 2770
- Glacier Bay Edition 2780
All boats are equipped with Yamaha four stroke engines, generally 300 to 350HP. Should you find World Cat boats with other engines such as the Seven Marine or a Mercury motor, it is post production manufacturing. In such cases, check with the boat lister to see if a transferable warranty exists on the motor.
Where is the best place to use a World Cat boat for sale?
World Cat boats are best used in saltwater. They are designed for the rougher waters, winds, and elements of the offshore fishing experience. Because the boats are available with cabins as well as an abundance of angler features, fishermen/women as well as the charter boat captain may find that this brand is suitable to meet his or her needs.
This boat is not recommended for most freshwater as the twin hull, the outboard engine power, and the depth of the boat greatly stifle river, stream, and most lake navigation.
