Storage and the flip down lounge
Unlike some of the family crafts which have fold up armrests, the Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless has downward flipping rests on its double wide lounge area. This eliminates the need for latches. Storage space is under the lounge and allows for 5 gallon buckets, ample space for fish storage should you use the boat for such, as well as a step down. The storage area is secured with a push latch system. The lounge area is just one of the many areas on the dauntless capable of storage. The transom seating as well as the bow have under seat storage.
Seating
The bow of the boat has flat seating. However, one of the features which Boston Whaler incorporated into the design is the ability to convert the flat laying bow seats on the bow and starboard to a Chaise lounge. Should the wind factor be too much as the bow of the boat, a fold up triple bar seat to the transom can be used. This makes it possible to have 9 forward facing seats, so at max capacity you would still have 3 people rear facing.
Made for fishing
The Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless may be designed for family fun, but it is also primarily designed for fishing excursions as well. The boat comes with 9 rod holders, two are at the rigging station and there are four rocket launchers attached to the hardtop of the cabin. This really leaves 3 holders on the exterior edges of the boat. This does not limit the ability to fish, as one would not wish to have the lines in front of the boat unless manually cast.
In addition to the rods, the baiting station also provides the use of a pull out sprayer on the sink, ample storage for fish, a 7.2L Yeti Cooler, and both a forward and aft passing deck.
The Helm
Standard on the Boston Whaler Dauntless is a singular touch screen navigational display. However, there is plenty of room on the dash to incorporate the various custom features such as the 12.1” Raymarine Es128 additional display, the Raymarine eS127 12.1 Electronics/Navigational Package, Ray50 VHF radio, or the available satellite radio or waterproof Stereo-Fusion. The Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless also has a double wide helm seat with two flip up bolsters at the helm. This was introduced in the 2014 model, older pre-owned boats may not have this feature.
Best use for the Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless
The Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless is ideal for diving and swimming, as it has the built in platform and safety features to do so. Additionally, the focus on the seating and the layout of such seating yields a preference to use the vessel in leisurely settings rather than for secluded fishing spots. There are no overnight options for the Dauntless, and so offshore trips are not recommended. Again, the design of the boat would merit more of an inland watersports and cruising use of the Boston Whaler 270 than to use the boat for deep sea fishing.
Because there are fishing rod holders, a sink, and some other really nice fishing oriented elements to the design, using this boat in the Gulf is the top choice. The boat has enough power to get to the deep waters while at the same time not going too far out as to be in dangerous territory. The family related design is suitable for the Atlantic beach coast, such as West Palm Beach or more so Vero Beach.
